"Short break..." – New bumpers for n-tv

Eyes & Ears of Europe

At the end of October, the news channel n-tv went on-air with their new bumpers. Under the heading ‘Short break’, 19 short clips now announce the commercials. The content of the five-second bumpers is inspired by the core topics of the channel – politics, business and finance, sports, weather and documentaries – and focuses on the small moments in life.

The clips start at normal speed and go into slow motion until they are almost a still image. The message: "Slow down the world, subdue the unrest and simply enjoy the moment." The films were developed and implemented by Digital Studio Parasol Island, Dusseldorf/Berlin. "The new n-tv bumpers are designed around the idea of 'pausing' the programme in an expressive way for a brief moment before the advertising begins", explains creative director Andy Wyeth from Parasol Island with regard to the "Short break ..." clips .

"The motivation behind the bumpers is simple, but essential for our society. They invite the audience to take a 'Short Break ...' and to pause for a moment", says Cornelia Dienstbach, Head of Sales & Marketing at n-tv. The bumpers can be seen at http://www.parasol-island.com/project/n-tv/.

Yesterday the exhibition 'Vintage – Design with a history' opened at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. The term "vintage" is all the rage – it is cult and trendy and reflects uniqueness. Thus, anyone who buys at thrift shop is 'in'. The new exhibition looks at both the aura and the very special quality emanating from original vintage pieces from the world of fashion, furniture and product designs, as well the artfully introduced imperfections for newly manufactured design objects. The motifs that lie behind the desire for objects with history are illuminated. Therefore, the vintage concept also provides new material for the discussion on the relationship between handicraft and industrial production. 'Vintage – Design with a history' until 6 April 2014 at the Museum für Gestaltung, Ausstellungsstrasse 60, Zurich. Opening hours: Tuesday and Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm; Wednesday from 10 am to 8 pm: closed on Monday.
