The ongoing collaboration between the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the Media Technology Center (MTC) at ETH Zurich enters a new phase. Students from the Department of Design at ZHdK engaged intensively with the latest software developments from researchers at MTC and GTC (Game Technology Center at ETH Zurich) in the Bachelor module 'Innovation Lab.' Under the guidance of Creative Director Alex Hefter and with the participation of Nicholas Schaerer, lecturer for Cast/Audiovisual Media at ZHdK, students collaborated with MTC/GTC researchers (Director Fabio Zünd) to create media content and formats based on these technologies. The emphasis was on innovative and experimental developments, providing a new, creative, and inspiring perspective on the technologies and offering surprising benefits for users.
The three developed projects showcase the creativity and diversity in the application of AI/AR technologies. The project 'Woven Wonder' introduces an interactive play carpet for children, 'Chatter.Box' explores the use of AI to revive historical figures for discussions on moral dilemmas, and 'leARn' utilizes context-sensitive objects in space as a multisensory language learning module.
