Eyes & Ears eSports Day 2021

15 July / 13.30 - 17.30 / online

Eyes & Ears of Europe

eSports is booming. Year after year, the industry is setting new growth and sales records worldwide. Nevertheless, many media brands still find it difficult to get involved. The gaming industry seems too opaque. One reason to shed light on the industry and link it more closely with the media world. For this reason, Eyes & Ears of Europe is organising the second eSports Day on Thursday, 15 July, in a suitable location, the XPERION, the Saturn E-Arena, in Cologne.

Like last year, the event language will be English
to make the information accessible to people from all over Europe.

14.15The media phenomenon eSports - implications for the digital society
Dr. Tobias M. Scholz, Academic Advisor at the Chair of Human Resource Management and Organisation at the University of Siegen

eSports has grown strongly in recent years and despite the current pandemic, eSports has been able to develop relatively smoothly through the crisis. This has made it clear that eSports is an exciting object of research for the media landscape, because the fact that eSports is a digital medium means that it can serve as a future laboratory for the digital society. At the same time, eSport also lacks the analogue/real element of interaction. It becomes clear that eSport is also lived as a hybrid, and in this respect, one can learn a lot from eSport and also take up and address the question of sustainability in a digital society.
14.35The eSports tournament landscape after the pandemic
Christopher Flato, Director of PR ESL Global & Youth Protection Officer at ESL Gaming, Cologne

The world has gone through some difficult changes lately, affecting everyone's personal life as well as many industries and how we define our work environment going forward. With esports being global and inherently digital, the industry was uniquely positioned to continue to entertain audiences -- especially when there were no traditional sports being broadcasted and other personal entertainment segments being not available at all. Considering the world is now slowly going back to normal, what does that mean for the esports tournament landscape?
14.55Football meets gaming meets charity
Simon Stöcker, Corporate Development & E-Sports, Project Manager E-Sports 1. FC Köln

One tournament. Ten players. The pitch: At home. The opponent: Corona. The goal: to help. That was the FC Charity Cup 2020. Ten professional players from 1. FC Köln played for the Cup at the console. The profits of the event - more than 60,000 euros - were donated. In his presentation, Simon Stöcker reflects on how a football club can enable digital "social touchpoints" and why this is necessary at all.

15.40Enabler Marketing am Beispiel der  esports player foundation
Evangelos Papathanassiou, Co-Founder esports player foundation, Berlin

The esports player foundation enables players to live their dreams and serve as role models. This is only made possible by incredible support from commercial partners who understood that, in order to advertise to target groups that hate advertising, you have to take them seriously and bring meaningful values, activities and contents to their lives. We call this “Enabler Marketing”: not only accepting, but supporting and nourishing lifestyles and values of a whole generation as the first step of true relationship building.
16.00eSports Cologne - From 10 to 100 and beyond
Marius Loewe, Chairman of the Board (COB) eSports Cologne e.V., 1. Vicepresident at State E-Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (e-sport.nrw)

Growing rapidly in relevance, eSports comes along with a massive fascination which I myself experience everyday at our Club. Thus I am very exited for this years eSports Day 2021 that on top of all things happens to find place in our home city Cologne!
16.20Esports at ProSiebenSat.1 - a unique ecosystem in Germany
Stefan Zant, Managing Director Seven. One Sports, Unterföhring Statement

Since 2016, Seven. One Sports has been increasingly committed to the perception and acceptance of Esports in German-speaking countries. The Esports and gaming news portal esports.com, TV coverage on ProSieben MAXX with "esports.com TV" as well as various live broadcasts and co-creations of leagues and events characterise the Esports ecosystem. What specific projects were created? And how were the partners able to successfully contribute to the DFB ePokal or the BMW Esports Boost?
