Sarah Lucas (born 1962) is part of the Young British Artists who emerged in 1988. Her works are bold and loud. Her exhibition is devoted to sex, smoking, death, the nudge-nudge, lists of swear words and insults. Welcoming the viewer devouring a banana or leaning in a chair with fried eggs covering her chest, she is greeting the visitor in her show at TATE. Happy Gas is a theatrical and yet surprising installation where older and newer works of the artist are present. Sarah Lucas’ art might not be the cup of tea for everyone, yet her humour and the absurdity and playfulness of her work is unique. The show “Happy Gas” will be on view until 14th of January 2024.
