Published in 2022 this book attempts to outline systemic issues related to focus and why the attention span of an average adult decreased over just centuries. The book explores factors such as information overload, stress, surveillance, manipulation, and ADHD diagnoses, as well as the lack of sleep, novel reading, introspection, and nutritious food. Hari avoids blaming algorithms or digital technology alone, emphasizing that information overload has been a gradual problem affecting focus. Hari negates the narrative that not being able to focus is rooted in personal failure rather he thinks that attention is raided by big companies for profit. While there are commonly mentioned case studies about the topic of focus globally, Johann Hari focuses on examples that are not widely known, like an office in New Zealand that discovered a remarkable technique to restore the attention of their employees. Hopefully your focus is not stolen to a degree, you cannot enjoy this book for a good read!
