Rhetoric & Communication – The culture of intelligibility or the delight in language

19.03. – 20.03.2015 / Eyes & Ears Academy, Frankfurt

"'Thought' is not said… 'Said' is not heard… 'Heard' is not understood…". This problem was formulated by the Austrian behavioural scientist Konrad Lorenz in his transmitter-receiver model. It raises the question of how content has to be communicated and packaged so the recipient will listen, understand and accept.

In the context of this two-day event organized by Eyes & Ears of Europe and SPORT1 in Ismaning, the participants will be introduced to the peculiarities of rhetoric as well as the communicative expectations of others. There is a clear and unambiguous distinction between sender and receiver, between plea and testimony, as well as between what is said and shown. Above all, however, stands the pleasure and the joy of dealing with words.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • rhetoric as a means of intelligibility or
  • the art of speaking: keyword "boredom"
  • use punch lines that make sense
  • be diplomatic and still achieve a set goal
  • emphasis as well as clear and distinct speech. Classical voice training exercises
  • recognize and discuss sensitivities
  • Target design = time design "You must have a plan ..."

The event is primarily aimed at managers and executives who have to carry out negotiations, staff talks, sales talks, lectures or presentations as well as other communicative situations in their daily work. Those generally interested, students and trainees are also welcome.
